Sarah Thackray
Sarah has spent almost 20 years working on association, academic, public sector and business events in the North East of England, across the UK and internationally. She co-founded event agency BeaconHouse Events in 2014 with Catherine Duhaut.
Originally from London, Sarah moved to the North East for University and now considers herself an adopted Geordie.
Sarah thrives on the challenge of making an event or project concept 'work', delivering the vision, while ensuring it is realistic and achievable within timescales and budget available. Sarah has delivered a huge variety of events from large scale conferences in Qatar, UK Government events with the Prime Minister, to 7-week cycling roadshows across the region and in 2023, Sarah co-founded and co-created new tech festival TechNExt which celebrates and showcases the region’s tech sector. The inaugural festival took place across the region in June 2023 and will be returning for year 2 in 2024.
Sarah is passionate about leading and driving forward the agency’s ESG strategy and is focused on balancing purpose with profit, ensuring BeaconHouse Events is a responsible business focused on doing the right thing, for the right reason and leaving a positive legacy.
A focus area for Sarah right now is finding sustainable event solutions and minimising the impact of events on the environment, through engaging with the team, supply chain and clients. Last year Sarah was named a Power 50 Green Champion for the events industry, a national initiative led by Isla and micebook. She also sits on the North East regenerative tourism and events stakeholder forum group which aims to develop and deliver a sustainable and progressive north east visitor and events economy.
Sarah is also a voluntary director for two North East England based organisations; a trading company for a North East charity Groundwork NE & Cumbria, and Dynamo North East, a Community Interest Company representing and championing the region’s tech sector. Sarah has also recently become a junior park run director in her local area.
