Bartercard UK is the UK franchise of Bartercard, the barter trading exchange founded in Australia in 1991.
Bartercard is a barter-trading system that enables businesses to barter goods and services within a global community of business owners. Bartercard in the UK has in excess of 2,000 members who, between them, transact around £20 million worth of business annually. Headquartered in Slough, the business also has offices in York, Milton Keynes, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Romford, Crawley and Plymouth.
Businesses barter-trading using Bartercard are ultimately buying with the cost of their products or services. For example, given the choice between paying an expense of £1,000 in cash or providing goods or services that a business would sell for £1,000, the latter is more profitable. This is because the profit margin is built into those products or services. Put simply, if it costs 35p in the pound to provide a product or service, then for every £1,000 trade purchase a business makes, the real cost is just £350. Bartercard enables businesses to leverage this buying power nationally and internationally.

Bartercard’s team of dedicated Account Managers located across the UK work together to guarantee its members news sales. By accepting Bartercard Trade Pounds as an alternative method of payment, every business gains access to a whole new market of customers who are looking to spend their trade pounds in place of cash.
Bartercard provides a bespoke service. A dedicated Account Manager works with each member from the initial membership application stage onwards. Their aim is to work with the rhythm of the members’ business by ironing out peaks and troughs in demand, helping to maintain sales, launching innovations in the market or even selling surplus stock.
Bartercard members receive an interest free line of credit ranging from £5,000 to £20,000 trade pounds, which allows them to make purchases immediately upon joining the Bartercard network. It allows members to continue growing their business when cash flow has slowed or when credit may be hard to come by - without incurring interest or borrowing fees.
Bartercard offers three membership options, each geared towards a turnover level. Each option involves a cash and T£ monthly fee and a small commission on every Bartercard transaction. In return, Bartercard offers:
  • access to 54,000 fellow global cardholders who last year transacted £360 million worth of business
  • a money-back membership fee guarantee, for sales of up to T£5,000 in the first 12 months (subject to conditions)
  • up to T£20,000 interest free credit (subject to status)
  • free networking events throughout the year
  • an online membership directory, updated weekly
  • a mobile app
Bartercard in the UK is led by Mark Williams, who purchased the UK master franchise from Bartercard International Group in December 2015. In the first three quarters of 2016, the business grew by nine per cent.
Globally, Bartercard operates in eight countries, through 75 offices with 600 staff, offering access to a wide selection of businesses and a huge selection of products and services.
